Its prevalence in adults is about 0.5%. It not only causes joint pain and severe disability but also increases mortality. RA is an inflammatory autoimmune disease whose the inciting stimulus is unknown, but the cascade of immunological and inflammatory reactions has been elucidated. These reactions produce inflammatory synovitis promptly followed by irreversible joint and bone destruction (1). Available treatments for RA fail to provide long-lasting control of the symptoms or disease progression.
